UConn head coach Dan Hurley is entering his ninth season at the helm, a tenure marked by a program that has become a fixture in the NCAA Tournament and a recent 18‑2 run over the last 20 games.
A Wave of Transfers and Fresh Faces
The roster overhaul brings several notable additions. Nik Khamenia, a standout from Duke, joins the squad alongside Na'jai Hines, who arrives from Seton Hall bringing rim protection and rebounding prowess. Oskar Giltay, a speedy center from Stanford, and Nils Machowski, a versatile forward from Wofford, add depth and mobility. The incoming class also features three highly touted freshmen — Jordan Hawkins, Joey Calcaterra, and Cam Spencer — who will complement the experienced core.
Among the returning players, Silas Demary Jr. stands out as one of the nation’s top point guards, having led the BIG EAST in assists during conference play last season. Braylon Mullins, a sophomore guard, is poised for a breakout year, while Solo Ball will miss the entire season due to a wrist injury.
The roster also includes a host of additional contributors: Elmir Dzafic, Isaiah Shaw, Junior County, Colben Landrew, Egor Amosov, Jacob Ross, Jayden Ross, Malachi Smith, Jaylin Stewart, Dwayne Koroma, Tarris Reed Jr., Jacob Furphy, Alec Millender, Rrezon Elezaj, Alex Karaban, Eric Reibe, and Uros Paunovic. Their collective experience and skill sets aim to sustain the team’s recent surge and to maintain the program’s upward trajectory.
Challenging Non‑Conference Schedule
UConn’s non‑conference slate pits the Huskies against traditional powerhouses such as Michigan, Duke, Illinois and Kansas, as well as a series of matchups in Las Vegas, Chicago, Phoenix and Memphis. The schedule also includes contests against Arizona, Grand Canyon, and Real Madrid, as well as a meeting with BC Samara in Russia, underscoring the global ambition of the program.
Coach Hurley emphasized that the blend of seasoned veterans and fresh talent is designed to maintain the program’s upward trajectory and to compete fiercely on the national stage.
