The decision follows a press conference on July 19, 2026, where league officials confirmed the existing agreement and highlighted the Alamodome’s decade‑long service as the championship’s stage.
A Tradition With an Eye on Tomorrow
Ray Zepeda, executive director of the UIL, said the organization is committed to delivering the best possible experience for students and fans, while also keeping the door open to alternative sites as the schedule evolves.
Jamey Harrison, UIL athletic director, noted that assessing venues is part of the league’s regular process for all championship events, though no specific alternatives or timelines were provided.
The Alamodome first hosted the basketball championships in 2015 after the competition moved from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, a shift that has since become a staple of Texas high school basketball.
