A Community Celebration of Sport and Culture

Ulster County is set to host the inaugural Future Stars Unity Cup on June 6 at the iconic Field of Dreams in New Paltz, a vibrant youth soccer tournament that doubles as a cultural fair celebrating the region’s diverse heritage.

The free community event, co‑hosted by the United Way of Ulster County, will feature a full slate of soccer matches, food vendors, art displays, and family‑friendly activities designed to bring neighbors together.

Sponsored by the ‘One Life Only’ initiative spearheaded by Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji, the tournament underscores a shared commitment to providing safe, positive outlets for local youth while highlighting community pride.

Youth players can sign up in advance or register on the day of the event, with all proceeds earmarked for United Way’s impact programs that support education, health and social services across the county.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, ensuring that participants and families can still enjoy the festivities without disruption.

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, thanking the partners and sponsors whose collaboration made the Unity Cup possible.

District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji emphasized that investing in youth is a proven strategy for crime prevention, stating that the event reflects a broader mission to uplift young people through community investment.

Stephanie Kearns, president and CEO of United Way of Ulster County, highlighted the importance of creating spaces where children can thrive, noting that the cultural fair offers a unique opportunity to celebrate diverse traditions.

Jodi Council, serving as Tournament Director of Coaching, added that the competition will be both fun and competitive, promising an engaging experience for players of all skill levels.

The cultural fair component will allow families to explore local heritage, sample regional foods, and participate in interactive workshops that showcase the county’s rich multicultural fabric.
