UMass Lowell’s field hockey program is gearing up for the 2026 season with a fresh infusion of talent. Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc announced the addition of eight newcomers, signaling an aggressive push to deepen the roster and inject new energy into the squad.
A Global Mix of Talent
The incoming class reflects a truly international flavor. Frederique van den Dungen arrives from Rosmalen in the Netherlands, where she honed her skills at Syracuse University and with MHC Rosmalen, bringing collegiate experience and club pedigree. From the West Coast, Sophie Han joins after standout performances at VCRD High Performance and Moorpark High School, a combination that highlights her high‑performance training background. Across the Atlantic, Mae Kemps of Vught, Netherlands, adds not only club experience with MOP Vught but also a record of leadership in the Model European Parliament, underscoring a well‑rounded profile.
Shaye Lastella, a native of Livingston, New Jersey, comes to the River Hawks after serving as team captain at Livingston High and excelling with Centercourt FHC, bringing both on‑field command and a winning mindset. Kendal Leeland, hailing from Towson, Maryland, arrives after two years as captain at Notre Dame Preparatory School and a productive stint with Hymax Field Hockey, promising defensive stability and versatility. Sophia Setouhi, a Watertown, Massachusetts product, was a captain at Watertown High School and contributed to Bedford Wizards, adding local roots and a strong work ethic to the mix.
Ella Sluder, also from Allentown, New Jersey, brings captaincy at Allentown High School and experience with Jersey Intensity, positioning her as a dynamic midfielder ready to influence playmaking. Rounding out the group, Kat Staruski from Foxboro, Massachusetts, joins after a distinguished high school career, eager to translate her club success into collegiate impact.
