The University of Massachusetts Lowell’s hockey program is set to welcome three new faces this season, each bringing a distinct path to the River Hawks.
Anthony Dowd, a 5‑foot‑7 right‑shot defenseman, arrives from Arizona State after a stint that included the USNTDP U17 squad and the Chicago Steel. Known for his compact frame and 152‑pound build, Dowd’s journey through junior and college ranks has been marked by moments of resilience, even as his offensive output dipped in his final year with the Sun Devils.
Despite a quiet offensive showing — no goals and just four assists in his last season at ASU — Dowd’s defensive reliability and experience across multiple teams suggest he could provide a steady presence on the blue line.
A Fresh Look for the River Hawks
Joining him is Félix Plamondon, a Quebec native who earned the QMJHL Defensive Defenseman of the Year honor after a 32‑point campaign with the Shawinigan Cataractes. Plamondon’s blend of size, skill and a strong defensive mindset is expected to fortify the River Hawks’ back end.
Tobias Pitak, a Slovakian center who spent the previous season at Northern Michigan, adds a two‑way dimension to the roster. Having represented his country on the international stage and posted 12 points in 25 games for the Wildcats, Pitak brings both creativity and a willingness to backcheck.
The trio’s varied backgrounds — from the Midwest to the QMJHL and the Canadian‑American college circuit — create a mosaic of experience that could reshape Lowell’s approach on both ends of the ice.
Coach Dan Lacroix is expected to weave these newcomers into a cohesive unit, leveraging Dowd’s grit, Plamondon’s shutdown skills and Pitak’s versatility as the River Hawks aim to climb the Hockey East standings.
