UMass Lowell Renames Talon Club Lounge in Honor of Coach Billy Riley

New Champions Lounge Celebrates Three National Titles and a Lasting Legacy

A Lasting Tribute

UMass Lowell Athletics is renaming the Talon Club at the Tsongas Center as the Billy Riley Champions Lounge, a tribute that honors Coach Billy Riley’s remarkable career and his pivotal role in building the university’s hockey tradition.

The lounge will showcase museum‑quality displays of Riley’s championship teams, historic memorabilia and multimedia exhibits that chronicle the program’s rise from Division II dominance to its current status in Hockey East.

Fundraising for the project, driven by the Billy Riley Champions Fund, aims to surpass $250,000, with donors who give $1,000 or more earning permanent recognition on a dedicated donor wall inside the lounge.

Beyond the memorabilia, the space is designed as a welcoming gathering spot for alumni, fans, supporters and student‑athletes on game days and special occasions, fostering community around the program’s rich heritage.

Coach Riley’s emphasis on integrity, mentorship and player development continues to influence the culture of UMass Lowell hockey, making the new lounge not just a memorial but a living extension of his philosophy.
