UMBC and Loyola Launch Blake Elliott Cup in Memory of a Soccer Legacy

The annual match, scheduled for Aug. 23, channels proceeds to a foundation that promotes youth athletics, acceptance and animal care.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Loyola University Maryland are set to renew a special rivalry on the soccer pitch, the Blake Elliott Cup, created to celebrate the life of Blake Elliott, a promising student‑athlete who died in a fall 2025 car crash.

Remembering Blake Elliott

The annual contest will take place on Sunday, August 23, at 6 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park, the home field of UMBC, bringing together the two programs that Elliott once represented as a player.

All proceeds from ticket sales and related fundraising will be directed to the Blake Elliott 3 Foundation, an organization that supports youth and families, promotes kindness and acceptance, provides athletic opportunities and advocates for animal care.

Honoring a family legacy

Rob Elliott, Blake’s father and a former standout for both UMBC and Loyola, remains one of the top 25 players in Loyola history for points, goals and assists, and once led UMBC to a 15‑3‑1 record in 1993.

Anthony Adams, now UMBC’s head coach and a former teammate of Rob Elliott, will be on the sidelines, while Steve Nichols, Loyola’s head coach, has spoken of Blake’s caring and loving nature that continues to inspire teammates.

The match serves as a community gathering, reinforcing the values of acceptance and compassion that Blake championed and supporting the foundation’s mission to foster youth athletics and animal care.
