A Night of Record-Breaking Offense and Pitching
In a commanding display of collegiate baseball, UMBC defeated UMass Lowell 9-0 on Tuesday, advancing to the next round of the America East Tournament. The Retrievers combined a 20-hit offensive onslaught with Zach Robinson’s nine‑inning shutout to pull away early and never look back.
Dylan Melton led the hitting parade, tying an America East Tournament record with five hits in five at‑bats. He finished 5‑for‑5 with a stolen base and an RBI, underscoring his hot streak after being named Player of the Year.
Zach Robinson delivered a masterclass on the mound, throwing 103 pitches over nine innings while allowing just two hits and two walks. He struck out three batters and kept the opposition scoreless, cementing his status as the weekend’s ace.
Supporting performances came from Ehi Okojie, the America East Player of the Year, who went 4‑for‑5 with an RBI, and Danny Wyatt, who contributed a 3‑for‑5 effort with two RBIs. Additional hits from Danny Orr and Jesiah Carpenter added depth to the lineup.
The game opened with two runs in the bottom of the first, added a single run in the second, and exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, turning a modest lead into a decisive margin. With the victory, UMBC now prepares for its next opponent as the tournament progresses.
