Four standout players appointed captains and alternates as Bulldogs gear up for season opener

The University of Maryland announced its leadership group for the 2026‑27 women’s hockey season, naming four players as captains and alternates ahead of the team’s first game.

A blend of experience and youth

Senior defenseman Ida Karlsson will serve as one of the primary captains, bringing a blend of collegiate experience and international exposure after representing Sweden at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Joining her, junior forward Caitlin Kraemer has been selected as the other primary captain, a role that reflects her status as an All‑WCHA Third Team honoree and her knack for delivering game‑winning goals.

In net, senior goaltender Ève Gascon is named an alternate captain, a testament to her two‑time All‑American accolades and back‑to‑back WCHA Goaltender of the Year honors, having posted a 1.77 goals‑against average and 10 shutouts last season.

Junior defenseman Kate Kosobud rounds out the alternate captain group, having appeared in all 38 games a year ago and contributing two goals, eight assists and 40 blocked shots.

The Bulldogs open the season at home against Mercyhurst on September 25, a matchup that promises to showcase the new leadership on the ice.
