The University of Minnesota Duluth’s women’s hockey program has once again shone on the national stage, as six of its student‑athletes earned spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District® Women’s At‑Large team.
The honor, which spotlights the nation’s top scholar‑athletes, celebrates not only athletic prowess but also academic excellence, recognizing those who excel in the classroom as fiercely as they do on the ice.
A Legacy of Dual Excellence
Among the honorees, senior forward Eve Gascon maintains a 3.89 cumulative GPA in psychology and secures her second consecutive CSC distinction, while fellow forward Thea Johansson, a 3.84 scholar in interdisciplinary studies, prepares to represent Sweden at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Ida Karlsson, a marketing major with a 3.83 GPA, joins Johansson on the Olympic roster, and defenseman Krista Parkkonen, who posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in communications, previously earned All‑American Scholar accolades.
Ashley Messier and Mary Kate O'Brien round out the cohort, each boasting GPAs above 3.8 and contributing to a program that has now placed the maximum six Bulldogs on the All‑District list for two straight seasons.
Athletic director Mark Cozens praised the group, noting that “the blend of academic rigor and competitive drive defines the Bulldog spirit,” and expressed confidence that the team will continue to compete at the highest level both on the ice and in the classroom.
