The University of North Alabama football team reported to the Cox Creek Sports Complex in Florence on Wednesday, marking the start of fall camp ahead of the 2026 season. With 119 players on the roster, the squad includes 15 returning lettermen on offense and 12 on defense, setting the stage for a competitive year.
Head coach Brent Dearmon, now in his fourth season, expressed satisfaction with the first day of practice, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement. Under his leadership the Lions have already secured marquee victories over Chattanooga, No. 10‑ranked Abilene Christian and Eastern Kentucky.
A Fresh Coaching Landscape
The coaching staff welcomes two new coordinators: Travis Partridge, who will oversee the offense, and Clint Bowen, who takes the reins of the defense. Their arrivals bring fresh schemes and renewed energy to both sides of the ball.
The season opener is scheduled for August 29 when UNA hosts Samford at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. This game will be the first college football contest ever played at the venue and marks a symbolic start to the campaign.
Following the Samford matchup, the Lions will travel to Arkansas on September 5, meet Southeastern Louisiana on September 12, and then host Alcorn State on September 19. The Alcorn State game will also serve as the grand opening of Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium, the program’s first on‑campus facility.
The new stadium will host six home games this season, providing a modern backdrop for what promises to be an exciting year. With a blend of experienced returnees, promising newcomers and innovative coaching, the UNA Lions are poised to build on past successes and aim for a strong finish.
