UNC alumni eye NBA Summer League
The Las Vegas Summer League has become a proving ground for rising talent, and this year up to four former University of Northern Colorado Bears could test their mettle on the court. Names such as Saint Thomas, Isaiah Hawthorne, Quinn Denker and Langston Reynolds are all expected to receive invitations, joining a roster that blends undrafted prospects with players looking to cement their professional aspirations.
Among that group, Dalton Knecht is already making waves as the sole UNC product currently on an NBA roster. The Los Angeles Lakers selected him in the first round of the 2024 draft, and he now prepares to showcase his skills under the bright lights of the summer circuit.
Denker’s path to the pros
Quinn Denker arrives with a strong collegiate résumé: he averaged 19.2 points, 7 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game last season, highlighted by a 35‑point outing against Idaho and a program‑record 16 assists versus Sacramento State. After a standout year, he has signed with Bill Neff of SAGA Sports and is training with the explicit goal of earning an NBA spot.
Langston Reynolds, who spent three seasons at UNC before transferring to Minnesota of the Big Ten, posted 11.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game before moving on. Though not drafted, his work ethic and versatility have put him in the conversation for a summer league contract.
Beyond the NBA
Coach Steve Smiley has long emphasized the global reach of his former players, noting that alumni such as Jonah Radebaugh now compete in Spain’s Liga ACB and that Brock Wisne is set to join Spain’s Primera FEB, describing it as the best second‑division league in Europe. Both players credit the guidance of former teammates for their preparation.
The convergence of NBA Summer League exposure, professional representation and international experience creates a unique pathway for these former Bears. As they vie for roster spots, the broader basketball community watches closely, aware that the next chapter may be just around the corner.
