UNC Announces 2026‑27 Men’s Basketball Roster with International Additions

Coach Michael Malone reveals a blend of transfers, returning players and newcomers ahead of the upcoming season.

North Carolina – Coach Michael Malone has officially confirmed the University of North Carolina Tar Heels’ lineup for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, finalising a 15‑player roster that blends veteran presence with fresh talent.

The announcement comes as the program prepares to replace departing NBA veterans Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar, while integrating a diverse set of newcomers.

A balanced mix of experience and youth

Among the new faces are international prospects Sayon Keita and Alexandros Samodurov, both cleared to join the team immediately. Keita arrives as a freshman according to UNC compliance, while Samodurov, a junior, retains three years of eligibility.

The Tar Heels also added six transfers through the portal: Cameron Fens, Terrence Brown Jr., Neoklis Avadalas, Matt Able, Angelo Brizzi and Cade Bennerman. Fens, in particular, is eligible for a fifth season following a recent court ruling that grants him an additional year of athletic eligibility.

Returning scholarship athletes Jarin Stevenson, Jaydon Young and Isaiah Denis will provide continuity, while the incoming freshmen cohort — Maximo Adams, Kevin Thomas and Malloy Smith — adds depth to the backcourt and wing positions.

Looking ahead

Coach Malone emphasized that the mix of returning players, portal acquisitions and international recruits is designed to create a cohesive frontcourt and maintain competitiveness in the ACC. Early practices suggest the team is already developing chemistry, with an emphasis on defensive versatility and rebounding.
