Spartans Celebrate Academic Honor
The American Baseball Coaches Association has recognized the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s baseball program with its 2025‑26 Team Academic Excellence Award, citing a collective 3.25 grade point average for the 2025‑26 academic year.
The honor, which requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and full ABCA membership for the coaching staff, placed UNCG among five Southern Conference schools that earned the distinction, alongside Mercer, Western Carolina, Wofford and East Tennessee State University.
Although the Spartans finished the 2026 season with a 23‑33 overall record and a 7‑14 mark in conference play, the academic accolade underscores the program’s commitment to balancing athletics and scholarship.
Three UNCG players received postseason honors, with Jacob Budzik earning a spot on the All‑SoCon Second Team and freshmen Ayden West and Tanner Berry being named to the All‑Freshman Team, highlighting emerging talent within the squad.
Coach Mike McRae, a longtime ABCA member, praised the team’s dedication both on the diamond and in the classroom, noting that the award reflects a culture that values scholarly achievement as much as competitive success.
