UNG Baseball Secures NCAA Division II Tournament Bid as No. 4 Seed

Nighthawks Prepare for First‑Round Matchup Against Francis Marion

NCAA Tournament Bid Secured

The University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball program captured an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II tournament after finishing the regular season as outright Peach Belt Conference champions. The Nighthawks, now 41‑14, will enter the postseason as the No. 4 seed in the Southeast Regional and will meet No. 5 seed Francis Marion at 2 p.m. on May 14 in Tigerville, South Carolina.

Head coach Nolan Belcher, in his debut season at UNG, praised the team's consistency and effort that made the bid possible. "Receiving an NCAA bid is incredibly exciting and a true reflection of the season our guys have put together," Belcher said. "It's exciting to be in, but we fully expect to go play good baseball and compete for a regional championship."

A Balanced Attack

The Nighthawks boast a deep lineup in which all eight starters carry a batting average above .300, while four pitchers have each recorded at least six victories. This balance has been a hallmark of their success and provides depth as they head into the regional tournament.

UNG will be joined in the pod by North Greenville University, the No. 1 seed, and Lander University, the No. 8 seed, both of whom swept the conference championship series. The four‑team, double‑elimination format means the Nighthawks must navigate two games to advance to a best‑of‑three Super Regional scheduled for May 21‑23.

Looking Ahead

Should the Nighthawks progress, they would face the winner of a pod that includes No. 2 seed Catawba, No. 3 seed Wingate, No. 6 seed Young Harris, and No. 7 seed Belmont Abbey. A successful run would mark the second consecutive NCAA appearance and the fifth overall for the program.
