Union College’s field hockey squad endured an 8‑0 loss to Middlebury College on Saturday, a result that underscored the Panthers’ difficulty in converting early momentum into a sustained advantage.
A Hard‑Fought Start
The Panthers had taken a 1‑1 tie in the opening minutes, but Middlebury scored twice in the second quarter, breaking the game open, and Megan Fuqua added three goals across the middle two quarters, while Emma McCann supplied four assists.
Union’s defensive effort was nevertheless commendable; junior Tess Parker logged three saves in the first quarter and added six more in the second, while senior Marion Stuntz contributed nine stops during the final 27 minutes, and the team was outshot 37‑8, underscoring Middlebury’s overwhelming offensive pressure.
Looking Ahead
Undeterred by the setback, the Panthers are slated to travel to face Massachusetts Institute of Technology next Saturday at 4 p.m., hoping to restore confidence and rebuild their standing in the coming week.
