Union College in Schenectady, New York, has reason to celebrate as both its men’s and women’s soccer programs have been honored for academic excellence and athletic achievement.
The women’s team captured the Liberty League’s academic award for the sixth straight year, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.60 under head coach Karen Perron, while 16 players earned spots on the Liberty League Fall All‑Academic Team and four received All‑Liberty League honors.
The men’s squad, guided by first‑year coach John Ciano, posted a 3.20 team GPA and reached the Liberty League Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2015, having dropped only a single conference match en route to a historic season.
National Recognition for Dual Excellence
Both programs are among just 175 institutions nationwide recognized by United Soccer Coaches, underscoring the college’s commitment to developing student‑athletes who excel in the classroom and on the field.
The women’s team also returned to postseason play for the first time since 2021, securing nine victories in three seasons, while the men’s side posted its best campaign in over a decade.
These accomplishments reflect a broader culture of achievement at Union College, a private institution with a longstanding reputation for integrating rigorous academics with competitive athletics.
