Union Springs and Lansing captured their respective Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball championships in a doubleheader at Watkins Glen High School on May 15, each securing a title that underscored dominant performances by their respective teams.
Union Springs Extends Small School Dominance
The Union Springs Bobcats clinched their third straight Small School championship, defeating Tioga Central 10-2. The victory was highlighted by two-run homers from Lucas Witter and Kevin Kinnaman, while Sam Intres drove in the first run with a groundout and two more scores came on an error.
Lucas Witter’s homer sparked a three-run fourth inning that broke a 2-2 tie, and Kevin Kinnaman added a pinch-hit homer in the seventh to cap the scoring. Pitcher Logan Peed worked the first 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, before Ethan Keim shut out Tioga over the final 2 1/3 frames.
Lansing Claims Large School Crown
Lansing earned its second Large School title in three seasons with a 10-1 victory over Thomas A. Edison. Aaden McMillen ignited the offense with a three-run homer in the second inning, and the team added three more runs in the third on a two-run single from Brandon McMillen and another RBI from Aaden.
Ryan Thompson closed the game by striking out four batters over the final two innings, while Brandon McMillen’s two-run single in the third helped stretch the lead. The win showcased a balanced attack and a strong pitching performance from starter Logan Mayo, who limited Edison to a single run over five innings.
The doubleheader not only crowned conference champions but also highlighted standout individual performances, from Aaden McMillen’s four RBIs to Lucas Witter’s clutch hitting, setting the stage for an exciting postseason.
