Uniqlo has inaugurated its first permanent community hub in the United States, located in Altadena, California. The space, situated on the grounds of St. Elizabeth Parish School, combines a soccer park with an educational center designed to serve families still coping with the aftermath of the recent wildfires.
A Permanent Space for Play and Learning
The venue boasts two professionally maintained turf fields and a bright classroom housed inside a repurposed shipping container. Programming is offered free of charge throughout the year and includes soccer leagues, mentorship sessions, homework assistance, lessons in financial literacy and digital skills training.
Street Soccer USA, the nonprofit partner behind the initiative, anticipates serving approximately 1,000 young people during the inaugural year. The collaboration builds on a relationship that dates back to 2013, when Uniqlo first became the organization’s official apparel sponsor.
Fuminori Adachi, chief executive of Uniqlo USA, said the hub reflects a commitment to creating places where families can gather, play and learn after a crisis has passed. “The priority is ensuring the Altadena park succeeds and serves the community well,” he noted.
The project is part of Fast Retailing’s broader pledge to contribute up to $2 million in funding and clothing to wildfire‑affected communities. Local educators and community leaders helped shape the program, identifying the need for both recreational space and expanded educational opportunities.
Organizers plan to monitor usage patterns and community integration over time, using the data to refine the model for potential replication in other markets. Adachi emphasized that the success of this pilot will guide any future expansion, but for now the focus remains on making the Altadena hub a lasting resource.
