United Soccer Coaches has unveiled the Janet Rayfield Fund, a dedicated program that will provide scholarships, grants and professional development resources to aspiring coaches seeking to advance their craft.
Janet Rayfield, who served as the third head coach of the Fighting Illini Soccer team from 2002 through 2024, retired after a 23‑season tenure that placed her among the most winning coaches in program history.
During her time at Illinois, Rayfield led the Illini to ten NCAA Tournament appearances, including four trips to the Round of 16 and a 2004 quarterfinal run, while capturing two Big Ten tournament titles and compiling a career record of 234‑183‑45.
A Legacy Reimagined
The newly established fund seeks to honor Rayfield’s philosophy by offering financial support for coaching education, enabling recipients to attend workshops, obtain certifications and engage with mentorship networks that reflect her commitment to lifelong learning.
Administered by the United Soccer Coaches Foundation, Inc., the initiative aligns with the organization’s broader mission to elevate coaching standards across all levels of the sport, ensuring that the next generation of coaches inherits Rayfield’s dedication to excellence and mentorship.
