University High School’s girls soccer program is stepping into 2026 with a roster that blends youthful talent and a handful of seasoned sophomores. After a 14‑4‑4 record in 2025, the Hawks posted a +24 goal differential over 22 matches, marking their first winning season since 2019. Head coach Graham Peace says the team’s rapid ascent is rooted in a core of emerging players who have already proven they can compete at a high level.
A Fresh Start for the Hawks
Key contributors include sophomores Lauren Goodenow and Ava Gizzi, who combined for 19 assists and 13 goals respectively in the previous campaign, as well as returning defenders Avery Alexander and Maddie Fritsch. Goalkeeper Caitlyn Stout, who recorded nine clean sheets and saved 90 shots, provides a reliable last line of defense.
The schedule promises several marquee matchups. The Hawks open the season at home against Lewis County on August 19, then travel to face Wheeling Park on September 1 in a rematch of the 2025 Region I championship. A home game against Morgantown on September 15 will test the team against a longtime rival, aiming for its first victory over the Mohigans since 2019.
Coach Peace emphasizes that the young squad’s chemistry will be the catalyst for continued growth. With a mix of freshmen and sophomores stepping into larger roles, the team hopes to translate early-season momentum into a deep run through the regional playoffs.
