The University of Denver's hockey program celebrated a remarkable academic milestone as nine of its student‑athletes were selected among the 723 NCAA Division I men's and women's players named National All‑American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association for the 2025‑26 season.
A blend of grit on the ice and scholarship in the classroom
To earn the distinction, each player maintained a cumulative grade‑point average of at least 3.75 across two academic terms and contributed to at least 40 percent of the team's games during the campaign. The honorees span class years, from senior Kent Anderson to freshmen Clarke Caswell, Eric Jamieson, Brady Milburn, Quentin Miller and Reid Varkonyi.
Among the cohort, Eric Pohlkamp received his first career national scholar award and joined an elite group of four players who were simultaneously recognized as both athletic and academic All‑Americans. Senior Kent Anderson extended his record of being named an All‑American Scholar in each of his four seasons at Denver, while junior Boston Buckberger earned the honor for the third consecutive year and sophomore Tory Pitner added back‑to‑back accolades.
The university also highlighted additional academic recognitions. Pohlkamp, Anderson, Buckberger and Pitner were previously placed on the NCHC Academic Honor Roll and designated as NCHC Distinguished Scholar‑Athletes earlier in the season. Buckberger additionally secured a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑Conference Team, and Anderson was crowned the NCHC Senior Scholar‑Athlete Award winner.
Freshmen Caswell, Jamieson, Milburn, Miller and Varkonyi are slated to be listed on the NCHC Academic Honor Roll when the league announces its newcomer additions later this month. Their high GPAs also earned them DU Athletics' Scholar‑Athlete of the Year distinctions within the freshman class.
Overall, the university's academic prowess contributed to a national total of 723 scholars, underscoring the growing emphasis on balancing competitive athletics with rigorous scholarship.
