The University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana have announced a four‑game women’s basketball series that will begin in the 2027‑28 season, with the matchups rotating annually between Liberty Arena and the Ford Center.
Under the agreement, USI will host the opening contest, after which the venues will alternate each year, giving both campuses a chance to showcase their facilities and fan bases.
Rick Stein, who is entering his 28th year as USI head coach, said the series is a “fun and competitive experience for the city of Evansville,” while Ben Wierzba, the newly appointed coach at UE, called the arrangement “important for the city and both programs.”
The timing also reflects the different stages of the two programs: UE’s Purple Aces are in a rebuild, fielding only four returning players from last season, whereas USI returns 11 veterans and looks to build on Stein’s long tenure.
A Renewed Rivalry
The series marks the first regular‑season meeting between the two schools since 1988, a gap that has only heightened anticipation. Fans can expect a lively atmosphere, strong crowds and a showcase of the growing prominence of women’s basketball in the region.
