The University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana have unveiled a four‑year women’s basketball series that will commence with the 2027‑28 season. The partnership was announced jointly by the two schools, marking a renewed commitment to showcasing high‑level collegiate basketball in the region.
Under the agreement, host sites will alternate each year, beginning with a game at USI’s Liberty Arena. Subsequent matchups will move to Evansville’s Ford Center in 2028‑29, return to Liberty Arena in 2029‑30, and conclude the series at the Ford Center in 2030‑31.
A rivalry reborn
The series revives a rivalry that dates back to 1971, when the two programs first met. Over the decades Evansville has held a 15‑7 edge in the all‑time series, a statistic that adds extra intrigue to the upcoming contests.
Dr. Ziggy Siegfried, UE’s Director of Athletics, said the series is a “major milestone” for student‑athletes, fans and the broader Evansville community, providing a platform to highlight women’s basketball on a regional stage.
UE Head Coach Ben Wierzba echoed the sentiment, noting that the matchups will “bring out the best in everyone” and serve as a celebration of the city’s growing sports culture.
Athletic officials anticipate that the series will generate significant excitement, with ticket information and game dates to be released as the schedule progresses. The collaboration also underscores the shared ambition of both institutions to elevate their women’s programs within Division I.
