The University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana have unveiled a four-year women's basketball series that will begin in the 2027-28 season, marking a renewed chapter for both programs.
A historic renewal
The schedule calls for games to alternate between Liberty Arena, home of the Screaming Eagles, and the Ford Center, with the series running through the 2030-31 season. This will be the 23rd meeting between the two schools, the first time both squads compete at the Division I level, and the first regular-season series since 1988.
Coaches and officials weigh in
USI Women's Basketball Head Coach Rick Stein said the series will give the city of Evansville and fans of both universities a chance to experience high-level competition, while USI Vice President and Director of Athletics Jon Mark Hall expressed happiness that the series is finally happening and looks forward to showcasing the two programs.
The announcement follows the recent scheduling of a men's basketball matchup set for November 7, 2026 at the Ford Center as part of the River City Classic, adding another layer of excitement for the upcoming season.
Looking ahead
Fans can expect a packed atmosphere as the series pits tradition against emerging talent, promising memorable moments that will resonate throughout the region.
