Jordan Scott, a 19‑year‑old guard for the University of Evansville women’s basketball team, was killed Sunday night in a single‑vehicle crash near State Road 62 and Franz Road, just outside Evansville, Indiana.
Investigators say the vehicle left the roadway after encountering a sharp, dark curve that Scott, who was unfamiliar with the stretch, apparently could not negotiate, causing the car to strike a utility pole.
A 2025 graduate of Castle High School, Scott had previously competed at Wabash Valley College before transferring to the University of Evansville, where she quickly became known for her relentless work ethic, upbeat demeanor, and natural leadership that lifted the spirits of her teammates.
Her younger sister, Jayden Scott, also a freshman joining the UE program, described the pair’s journey as a ‘dream come true’ for the basketball family, underscoring the close bond that defined their shared passion for the game.
Head coach Ben Wierzba, who spent only one summer coaching Scott, recalled her dedication and the strong presence she brought to the roster, noting that she had a clear desire to be coached and to grow under his guidance.
Following her death, the team rallied around one another, with Wierzba emphasizing unity and emotional support for both the players and the Scott family as they navigate the loss.
