A Legacy Reclaimed
The University of Louisiana System announced this week that its baseball stadium will be renamed Tony Robichaux Park, a tribute to the late coach whose career reshaped the program’s identity.
The facility, previously known as Russo Park, will now carry the name of Robichaux, who amassed a career record of 1,173‑765‑2 and guided the Ragin’ Cajuns to their only NCAA College World Series appearance in 2000.
Alongside the renaming, the university will honor the Russo family by dedicating a new Russo Club, a nod to the family’s long‑standing financial support that helped sustain the baseball program.
Chris J. Russo, a prominent benefactor, pledged $1.225 million toward the Russo Stadium Club and an additional $500,000 to launch the Friends of Tony Robichaux Fund, a fundraising initiative aimed at bolstering the team’s resources.
The Friends of Tony Robichaux Fund seeks to raise $5 million, ensuring that the program can continue to compete at the highest level while preserving the values Robichaux championed.
Dr. Ramesh Kolluru, UL President, emphasized that the new park will embody discipline, accountability, faith, and service, reflecting the broader impact of Robichaux’s leadership beyond the diamond.
The renaming ceremony, scheduled for August 27, 2026, will bring together alumni, donors, and current players to celebrate a legacy that extends into the community and the annals of Louisiana baseball history.
