The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is revamping how fans obtain tickets for Vaqueros football games, moving away from traditional QR codes toward a digital‑wallet approach.
Digital wallet tickets replace QR codes
Fans will now save their tickets directly to a digital wallet and simply tap their phone at the gate to gain entry. The shift eliminates the need for printed QR codes and blocks the use of screenshots, thereby reducing fraudulent entries.
Starting this season, single‑game tickets will be released each Monday at 8 a.m. during weeks that feature home games, a change from the previous Friday schedule. The new timing is intended to give fans a clearer window for purchasing and to spread demand more evenly.
The south end zone expansion adds 1,500 new seats, increasing overall ticket availability and allowing the stadium to accommodate a larger crowd.
A unified platform for all ticketing needs
The updated system integrates student and public ticketing under one account, letting fans manage season tickets, transfer tickets, view parking passes, and track rewards points without switching between multiple services.
Behind the scenes, stadium staff will receive real‑time entry data, enabling quicker responses to congestion and improving overall safety and crowd management.
Derek Schramm, who oversees the rollout, said the changes reflect a commitment to modernizing fan engagement while maintaining the traditions of Vaqueros football.
