A Vision for a New Sports Hub
The Upper Merion Township board has been presented with a proposal to build a $200 million stadium complex on First Avenue within the Moore Park business park, just outside King of Prussia. The facility would serve as a home for a minor league baseball franchise and could also accommodate professional soccer matches, creating a multi‑use venue that might draw regional attention.
Greg Weks, the township’s supervisor, called the idea “exciting” but emphasized that it remains a possibility rather than a certainty. The stadium would hold roughly 7,000 spectators and would be contingent on securing substantial state funding, a hurdle that local officials acknowledge could shape the project’s fate.
Planners envision the venue as a catalyst for economic activity, yet they are also aware of the logistical strain it could place on an already congested corridor. Traffic flow, parking and public transit have been flagged as critical issues that the township would need to address before any construction can begin.
Funding and Future Prospects
Upper Merion has already applied for preliminary grants tied to the development, but the township’s officials stress that the project’s success is inseparable from a major state financial commitment. Without that backing, the ambitious timeline and scale of the stadium would remain out of reach.
Discussions about which minor league affiliate might call the stadium home have yet to surface, and no Philadelphia Phillies farm team is currently seeking a new location. However, the complex could attract an independent league club, echoing the recent departure of the Camden Riversharks, thereby offering a fresh professional baseball presence to the region.
