A Legendary Return
Urban Meyer will be celebrated with a Ring of Honor induction when the Florida Gators take on Oklahoma on November 7. The ceremony will spotlight the coach’s profound impact on a program that has become synonymous with excellence under his guidance.
Meyer’s six‑year tenure from 2005 to 2010 produced a staggering 65‑15 record, highlighted by national championships in 2006 and 2008. His teams captured 16 straight January bowl games and set a school‑record 22‑game winning streak, the fourth longest in SEC history.
A Legacy Among Legends
The induction places Meyer alongside Florida icons such as Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel, Jack Youngblood and the ever‑illustrious Tim Tebow, who himself was honored in 2018. Each of these figures helped shape a dynasty that defined a generation of Gator football.
Meyer’s influence extended beyond wins. He coached 57 All‑Americans and 113 All‑SEC selections, including two Heisman Trophy winners — most notably Tim Tebow in 2007. His .813 career win percentage ranks second in Florida history, and his 36‑5 home record at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium remains a benchmark for future coaches.
Beyond the statistics, Meyer’s legacy is measured in the lasting culture of ambition he instilled. His consecutive 13‑win seasons in 2008 and 2009 marked the first time an FBS coach achieved that feat, and his teams were ranked for 89 straight weeks, underscoring a period of sustained national relevance.
