A New Chapter for the Rams
The University of Rhode Island’s women’s basketball program is set to open its non‑conference schedule with a series of high‑profile matchups that will test its depth and resilience.
After capturing the Atlantic 10 regular‑season crown and securing the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth in three decades, the Rams finished the year 28‑5, only to see their run halted by a first‑round loss to Alabama.
The departure of longtime coach Tammi Reiss to Florida opened the door for Colleen Mullen, who arrived from Albany with a reputation for developing talent and emphasizing defensive intensity.
Mullen has kept the core of last season’s backcourt intact, retaining standout guard Sophia Vital and redshirt guard Amori Jarrett, while adding fresh legs through the transfer portal.
The incoming transfer class includes guard Mia Fiore, forward Queen Ikhiuwu and a quartet of players from Albany, giving the roster additional versatility as the team prepares for tough road tests.
Among the non‑conference opponents slated for the upcoming campaign are George Mason, Richmond, La Salle and Dayton, all of whom are expected to bring competitive challenges.
The Rams are also expected to schedule a marquee rivalry game against Providence, a matchup that could draw significant attention from the local fan base and media.
With a blend of experience and new talent, the coaching staff believes the team is positioned to compete against the Atlantic 10’s traditional powerhouses and to make a deeper push in the NCAA Tournament.
