Free Referee Training Sessions Set for Manistee
The United States Soccer Federation will conduct two complimentary referee clinics in Manistee on Sunday, August 2, at Duffy Park. The events are part of a broader effort to expand the pool of qualified officials across the state.
A new referee clinic will kick off at 1 p.m., followed by a certified referee clinic at 3 p.m. Each session is designed to run for two hours, providing participants with hands‑on instruction and practical experience.
Senior officials from Lansing and Grand Rapids will lead the training, drawing on their extensive experience to cover both foundational techniques and advanced officiating strategies.
The new course is tailored for first‑time referees, preparing them to manage competitive and recreational youth and amateur adult matches. Meanwhile, the certified clinic offers a unique opportunity for referees to observe seasoned professionals in action, gaining insight into real‑time decision making.
Both clinics are open to anyone interested in officiating, regardless of prior experience, and are offered at no cost. Organizers hope the initiatives will strengthen the local referee community and improve the overall quality of soccer matches throughout Michigan.
