USA Basketball has revealed the assistant coaching lineup that will support head coach Erik Spoelstra at two of the sport’s most prestigious events. The announcement brings together three accomplished mentors whose careers span NBA triumphs and collegiate excellence.
Joining Spoelstra are J.B. Bickerstaff, who guided the Detroit Pistons to a 60‑22 record and earned 2026 NBA All‑Star Game head‑coach honors; Mark Daigneault, the 2024 NBA and NBCA Coach of the Year who led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a league‑best 64‑18 mark; and Mark Few, the longtime Gonzaga University architect whose teams have reached multiple NCAA Final Fours and who was inducted into the 2026 Naismith Hall of Fame.
Each of these coaches contributes a distinct blend of professional and collegiate experience, forming a staff that USA Basketball believes can translate domestic success onto the global stage.
World Cup in Doha, Olympic Games in Los Angeles
The centerpiece of the schedule is the 2027 FIBA Men’s World Cup, scheduled for August 27 through September 12 in Doha, Qatar. The tournament will test the new unit against the world’s elite national teams in a high‑stakes environment.
Two years later, the same cohort will travel to Los Angeles, California, for the 2028 Olympic Games, set for July 14 to 30. This marks the United States’ first home‑hosted Games since 2002, reigniting national pride and expectations.
Beyond the hardware, the appointments underscore a broader strategy to blend proven NBA leadership with collegiate innovation, a move that could reshape how American talent is prepared for international competition.
