The No. 25 USC baseball team is set to open NCAA Regional play on Friday, May 29, against Texas State in College Station, Texas, where the Trojans will be the No. 2 seed in the regional hosted by Texas A&M.
A Season Defined by Records
The Trojans closed the regular season with a 43‑15 record, marking their first 40‑win campaign since 2005 and the best start in program history at 19‑0. They finished the year with a perfect 32‑1 home record, a feat that also set a new program benchmark for series sweeps, which reached nine this season.
Their performance placed them ninth in the national RPI and topped the NCAA in shutouts with ten, while their pitching staff posted a 3.48 ERA that ranks sixth overall. The unit also boasts the nation’s best Hits per nine innings at 6.98 and a 1.20 WHIP that sits fourth.
Offensively, senior Jack Basseer leads the club with a .356/.446/.678 slash line, providing the backbone of the lineup. On the mound, Mason Edwards earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Year honors and sits second nationally with a 1.43 ERA, while also topping the country with 160 strikeouts. Grant Govel, another semifinalist for the National Pitcher of the Year award, contributes a 2.84 ERA to the rotation.
The Trojans’ defense is equally impressive, posting a .981 fielding percentage that ranks fifteenth in the NCAA, and a strikeout rate of 10.2 per nine innings that places them twenty‑fourth nationally.
Looking Ahead
Facing Texas State, the Trojans will look to extend their historic run. The Bobcats present a formidable challenge, but USC’s blend of elite pitching, potent hitting and stout defense gives them a clear edge as they aim to advance deeper into the tournament.
