A Glimpse at the 2027 Outlook
Junior infielder Adrian Lopez has decided to leave the USC Trojans baseball program, entering his name into the transfer portal after two productive seasons in which he batted .316 and drove in 93 runs.
His departure is part of a broader exodus from the roster this offseason, with multiple catchers, infielders, outfielders and pitchers opting to seek new opportunities elsewhere.
Coach Andy Stankiewicz, who guided the Trojans to one of their most successful campaigns in recent memory, acknowledges the loss but stresses that the program remains focused on rebuilding a competitive lineup.
Despite the turnover, the Trojans have several key contributors set to return, including pitchers Grant Govel and Andrew Johnson, as well as junior infielder Kevin Takeuchi, who were among the team’s top hitters last year.
The program also added left‑handed pitcher Anthony Gubitosi from Indiana, hoping his experience will bolster the pitching staff as the squad looks to maintain its recent momentum.
The Trojans finished the 2026 season with a 48‑18 record and a 20‑10 mark in Big Ten play, falling just one game short of the College World Series, the first time they have been that close since 2001.
