The University of Southern Indiana’s baseball squad posted a 5-3 win over Southeast Missouri State in the Ohio Valley Baseball Championship, turning a 3-1 hole into a triumphant finish.
A Late Surge Fuels the Win
Parker Martin, the junior second/third baseman, delivered the decisive blows, driving in runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. His two‑run double in the top of the eighth tied the game at 3-3, and a subsequent single in the ninth brought home Dane DeWees and Khi Holiday to push the lead to 5-3.
Earlier in the contest, USI had struck first when graduate centerfielder Khi Holiday scored on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Patrick McLellan, giving the Eagles a 1-0 edge in the opening frame.
Pitching Stands Firm
Senior right‑hander Andres Gonzalez entered in relief and blanked the Redhawks for three innings, earning the win, while starter Nate Anderson exited after 3.2 innings without a decision.
With the victory, USI now awaits the winner of the Lindenwood versus University of Arkansas at Little Rock matchup, a game that will determine the opponent in the tournament’s elimination bracket.
