The 2026 Utah Football season will open on September 3 when the Utes host the Idaho Vandals at the iconic Rice‑Eccles Stadium, marking the start of a year packed with visual and experiential enhancements designed to energize both players and supporters.
Illuminated Moments and New Traditions
State‑of‑the‑art LED lighting will bathe key moments such as the Tunnel Walk, pregame hype sequences, touchdowns and field goals, creating a cinematic backdrop that amplifies the stadium’s electric atmosphere. Complementing the visual upgrade, the Moment of Loudness tradition — first introduced in 2021 — will be expanded to honor the late Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe, with alumni tributes woven into the third and fourth quarter breaks.
The beloved Cauldron lighting, previously reserved for the first and second quarter, will now ignite the pregame ceremony. Accompanied by a resonant cannon blast and fireworks, the shift signals fans to arrive early and soak in the full spectacle, reinforcing a sense of anticipation that builds from the moment they step onto campus.
Adding to the fan experience, the Mighty Utah Student Section (MUSS) celebrates its 25th anniversary this season. The section’s pregame DJ will spin tracks within the MUSS, while surprise elements are slated for the Tunnel Walk, Team Run‑Out and the players’ traditional Utah Mili, promising fresh moments that will keep the crowd engaged.
Many of the popular upgrades from the previous year return, including the Arrival experience, mobile concessions ordering, East Eats food trucks, and upgraded security measures. All of these are integrated into the official Utah Athletics app, Utah 360, which offers tools such as game‑day maps, navigation assistance, parking details, tailgating guides and a Game Day Planner to streamline the entire event.
Coach Morgan Scalley, who has been a pivotal figure in shaping the program’s direction, will oversee the implementation of these changes, ensuring that the new traditions align with the team’s broader vision while honoring the legacies of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe.
