Utah Secures 2-0 Win Over Utah Valley
Utah opened the season with a 2-0 victory over Utah Valley University on Saturday, improving to 1-0-1 while the visitors fell to 0-1-1. The contest turned dramatic when goalkeeper Madeleine Boucher was sent off in the 43rd minute, leaving the team to finish with ten players.
The deadlock was broken in the 63rd minute when Shannon Davidson delivered a cross that Julia Oka redirected into the net via Reese Clem, giving Utah a 1-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Katie Callaway added a second goal after a rebound from a blocked shot, sealing the 2-0 result and underscoring Utah’s attacking efficiency.
Midfielders Sam Curtis and Kate Booth each contributed three shots, but defensive lapses proved costly. Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay lamented the team’s poor discipline and outlined preparations for the next encounter with Utah State on August 24 at UCCU Stadium, a match that will be streamed live on ESPN+.
