Utah State Bolsters Defensive Staff with Former Aggies and NFL Veteran

Tim Harris and Gabriel Iniguez Jr. join the coaching ranks, bringing NFL experience and Aggies legacy.

A strategic infusion of experience

Utah State University announced this week that former NFL safety Tim Harris and recent graduate Gabriel Iniguez Jr. have been appointed as defensive analysts on the Aggies' coaching staff.

Harris, who spent three seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns after a stint with the San Francisco 49ers, will focus on coaching the cornerbacks, drawing on his experience in secondary play.

Iniguez, a standout defensive lineman during his collegiate career at Utah State, will oversee the defensive line, leveraging his on‑field leadership and statistical achievements that included 37 tackles and 3.5 sacks in his final season.

Both hires come with academic credentials: Harris earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Virginia, while Iniguez graduated in spring 2025 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Looking ahead

Athletic director Diana L. Smith said the new analysts bring a blend of professional experience and deep program knowledge that will help the defense compete at a higher level in the Mountain West Conference. The university also highlighted the contributions of longtime defensive coordinator Bronco Mendenhall, who will continue to guide the unit's overall philosophy.
