A Night of Fireworks at the Utes' Home Field

The University of Utah baseball team erupted for a 16-9 victory over Utah Tech on Tuesday, a game that featured a 21-hit onslaught and eight different players delivering multi-hit performances.

Luke Jacobs was the catalyst at the plate, going 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored, while Cal Miller extended his on-base streak to 24 consecutive games.

The Utes’ offense exploded early, batting around in the first inning to plate seven runs on six hits, highlighted by Jake Long’s two-run homer that traveled 416 feet and Cameron Gurney’s leadoff shot of 387 feet.

Additional long balls from Matt Flaharty, who sent a 419-foot drive to the right-field berm, and a flurry of extra-base hits underscored the team’s power surge.

On the mound, Ryan Kittredge earned the win with a two-inning start, and Justin Abercrombie closed the game with a four-up, four-down ninth inning to record the save.

The Utes will now turn their attention to a three-game showdown against the Baylor Bears to close out the regular season, a series that will be preceded by Family Night featuring a Little League parade and a postgame drone show.

Saturday’s Senior Day celebration will cap the regular season, honoring the team’s seniors before the final stretch.
