High school star to serve mission in Ghana before joining the program in 2028

The University of Utah announced that Bryce Mella, a highly rated recruit from American Fork High School, has officially signed with the Runnin' Utes program.

High School Highlights

During his senior year, Mella guided the Cavemen to the semifinals of the 2026 UHSAA 6A State Tournament and earned first‑team all‑state honors. He concluded the season with averages of 16.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

His junior season was equally impressive, as he was selected to the second‑team all‑state roster after posting 17.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

International Service Before College

Before stepping onto the college hardwood, Mella will embark on a religious mission in Accra, Ghana. The experience is expected to shape his personal growth and readiness for the rigors of Division I basketball.

The Utes have indicated that Mella will join the team in the 2028 class, giving him a clear timeline for his arrival after completing his overseas service.

Looking Ahead

Coaches and analysts alike see Mella as a versatile wing who can contribute immediately with his scoring and rebounding. His blend of size, skill and work ethic aligns with Utah’s evolving roster philosophy.
