Match Recap: A Close 1-0 Loss
The University of Utah women's soccer squad traveled to Salt Lake City on Thursday, where they faced off against the Utah State Aggies on the familiar turf of Ute Field. The contest ended in a 1-0 defeat, leaving the Utes with a 2-1-1 record as they look to bounce back.
Coach Hideki Nakada praised the effort his players showed but was quick to point out that the team’s finishing was far from clinical. "We created chances, but we didn’t take them," he said, emphasizing the need to sharpen their attack before the next fixture.
The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Ellie Hendrix struck a clean shot that slipped past the Utah keeper. Despite out‑shooting the Aggies and earning more corners, the Utes were unable to convert any of their seven attempts, including two from Nevaeh Peregrina.
In goal, Callie Blaylock made her first start of the season and completed the full 90 minutes, keeping the defensive line organized even as the opposition pressed. The midfield battle saw a flurry of activity, but the final product was lacking.
Looking ahead, the Utes will head on the road to take on Utah Tech on Sunday evening at 7 p.m., a match that will test whether the lessons from this narrow loss can be turned into a positive result.
