The University of Texas at El Paso’s men’s basketball team is set to embark on a short trip to Mexico this August, where it will stage two exhibition contests as part of its preseason preparation.
The first matchup is scheduled for August 3 against the collegiate side Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez, commonly referred to as UACJ, at the university’s gymnasium, with tip‑off slated for 7 p.m. Local admission will be free, allowing fans in Ciudad Juárez to watch the Miners in action.
A day later, on August 4, the Miners will face the professional club Indios de Juárez, offering a different style of competition and another chance to fine‑tune tactics before the regular season begins.
A Competitive Warm‑Up
Coach Joe Golding, who took the reins this season, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming tests, noting that the games provide a valuable environment for players to gel and for the staff to evaluate depth.
The fixtures also echo a recent visit to the region; in 2024 the Miners held a practice at UACJ and secured a victory over Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua, a memory that adds a layer of familiarity and confidence heading into the new series.
