As the sun climbs over the desert horizon in El Paso, the UTEP women's basketball squad gathers on the practice court, where only eight players are currently moving through drills. Over the next two months, the roster will swell as ten fresh faces arrive, each slated to reshape the team's identity.
Forging Team Chemistry
Coach Keitha Adams has made it clear that the early weeks are about more than X's and O's; she wants to forge a cohesive unit that can trust one another under pressure. The emphasis on chemistry is palpable, with every drill designed to tighten the bond among the existing players and the newcomers.
At the heart of that effort is sophomore guard Aolani Woldai, who returns as a veteran presence and natural leader. Having navigated the transition from freshman to starter, she now spends extra time mentoring the new arrivals, sharing insights about the campus, the community, and the expectations that come with wearing the Miner jersey.
Among the most anticipated additions is Armanda Sindalawa, a transfer from Clarendon College whose statistical footprint is impressive: last season she posted 16.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. Sindalawa has spoken openly about feeling at home in El Paso, praising the coaching staff for their genuine care and the warm reception she has received.
The incoming class also brings a global flavor to the program. Four players hail from Angola, while another arrives from Nigeria, adding diverse perspectives to the locker room. Alongside them, Imani Warren, a transfer from New Mexico State, contributed 12.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last year, while Isabel Joao, the nation's top junior‑college prospect, averaged 17.3 points and 15.3 rebounds. Zainab “Lemon” Olalkan, a pure rebounding specialist, posted 11.6 points and 13.9 rebounds per game, underscoring the breadth of talent arriving.
