The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is set to open its baseball facilities to the community this July, offering a series of five distinct camps at the UTRGV Baseball Stadium. The sessions are designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of the game while providing advanced instruction for older athletes looking to compete at the collegiate level.
Camp Offerings
The schedule includes a Four‑Day Kids Camp for children aged four to eleven, a Four‑Day Camp for teenagers twelve through eighteen, a Prospect Camp for players fourteen and older, an Under The Lights session for older youths, and a Kids Under The Lights Camp tailored for younger participants. Each camp emphasizes a specific age group and skill set, covering hitting, fielding, throwing, baserunning and overall fundamentals.
All sessions will be overseen by UTRGV Head Baseball Coach Derek Matlock and the full coaching staff, who will guide instruction and provide personalized feedback. Their involvement ensures that participants receive high‑quality training that reflects the program’s standards and competitive spirit.
Registration fees vary by camp and age group, ranging from $125 to $200, making the programs accessible to a broad range of families. Early registration is encouraged, as spots are limited and fill quickly each summer.
Beyond technical skill development, the camps stress confidence building, teamwork and a love for the game. Organizers hope the experience will prepare participants for future competition and foster a lasting connection to the university’s baseball program.
