UTRGV Baseball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Five student-athletes recognized for excellence on the field and in the classroom

Five baseball student-athletes at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley have been selected for the Academic All-District® baseball team, a distinction that celebrates both athletic prowess and academic achievement.

A Distinctive Recognition

To earn the honor, a player must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale, and meet participation thresholds that vary by position.

The nominees this year span a range of academic disciplines, from human resource management to kinesiology, reflecting the university’s broad commitment to scholarship.

Standout Performers

Hank Warren, a senior who graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, has been named to the Academic All-District® team for the third time, having earned the accolade in both 2024 and 2025. He will begin studies at the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine this fall.

Easton Moomau, a junior majoring in exercise science, joins Warren as a two-time honoree, having received the distinction in 2024 and again in 2025.

Rocco Garza Gongora, a finance major, and Harrison Thayer, a kinesiology major, round out the cohort of scholars, while graduate student Colton Vercoe pursues a Master of Science in Human Resource Management.

A Commitment to Excellence

University officials say the repeated recognition underscores The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s dedication to fostering student-athletes who excel in the classroom as well as on the field, reinforcing the institution’s mission of integrating sport with academic rigor.
