A Free Soccer Clinic and Exhibition Match in Brownsville
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is set to welcome youngsters from across Brownsville for a free soccer clinic and an exhibition match this Saturday, offering a unique opportunity for local families to engage with college athletics.
Running from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the clinic will be conducted by UTRGV’s coaching staff and current student‑athletes, delivering drills that cater to children between five and thirteen regardless of skill level.
After the clinic, the Vaqueros women’s soccer team will take the field at 6:30 p.m. to face Tec de Monterrey in a complimentary match that is open to the entire community.
Head men’s soccer coach Bryheem Hancock highlighted the importance of reaching out to the local community, stating that the event is part of a six‑year tradition of using sport to spark interest in athletics among Brownsville’s youth.
Head women’s soccer coach Nataki Stewart added that she hopes the clinic will give participants a glimpse of how dedication, teamwork and hard work can translate into success both on the field and in life.
Organizers say the combined clinic and match aim to showcase the positive impact of college athletics, encouraging families to see sport as a pathway to personal growth and community connection.
