A Promising Mentor
Fabian Garcia, a rising sophomore at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, is set to lead a youth football camp at Cigarroa High School in Laredo on June 6. The camp welcomes incoming sixth through ninth graders from across the region, with a registration fee of $30.
The camp will be overseen by Lawrence Ellison, the head football coach at Cigarroa High School. Ellison brings 36 years of coaching experience and previously mentored Garcia while he played at San Benito High School.
High School Excellence
During his high school career Garcia earned Offensive Player of the Year honors. As a senior in 2023 he recorded 21 touchdowns and 1,761 rushing yards, following a junior season that included 29 touchdowns and 2,230 yards.
Though his collegiate debut at UTRGV has been modest — 213 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries — Garcia’s reputation as a dynamic running back continues to grow. His achievements have drawn attention from multiple high schools across Texas.
Community members view the camp as an opportunity for young athletes to learn from a promising talent and an experienced coach. Parents interested in enrolling their children can register through the school’s official channels.
