Season Overview
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has released the 2026‑27 men’s basketball schedule, marking the start of a new era under first‑year head coach Brandon Chambers.
The Vaqueros open the season at home on Nov. 2 against Texas A&M‑Kingsville at the UTRGV Fieldhouse, kicking off a stretch of three consecutive home contests before a six‑game road swing that will run from Nov. 18 through Dec. 28.
Key Matchups
During that road stretch the team will test itself against notable opponents such as UNLV on Nov. 28 and Arkansas on Dec. 29, the reigning SEC Tournament champion, while also facing Texas State and other regional rivals.
Conference play begins Dec. 3 with a road game at Nicholls followed by a Dec. 5 matchup at LSU New Orleans, and later the squad will host Texas A&M‑Corpus Christi on Jan. 2 before traveling to take on Texas State on Feb. 1.
The regular season wraps up in late February with a two‑away, two‑home pattern that includes contests against top‑ranked teams like Arkansas and Southeastern, setting the stage for the Southland Conference tournament in Lake Charles, Louisiana, scheduled for March 7‑10.
Following the conference tournament, the Vaqueros will await selection for the NCAA Tournament, which runs March 16‑17, with the national championship game slated for April 5.
