UTRGV Women's Soccer Claims 1-0 Victory Over Tarleton State
The UTRGV women's soccer squad traveled to face Tarleton State and emerged with a 1‑0 victory, a result that underscores the team's growing resilience on the road.
Senior forward Libby Pole found the back of the net in the 50th minute, her second career goal, after a precise assist from sophomore Isabella Burtini that broke a tightly contested deadlock.
Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Mariana Amezcua turned in eight saves, preserving the clean sheet and marking her first shutout as a Vaquero, a performance that kept Tarleton's attack at bay.
Despite being outshot 5‑19 overall, UTRGV limited Tarleton to just one shot on target in the second half, a testament to disciplined defending that produced multiple yellow cards for both sides.
The match featured a physical contest, highlighted by a 53rd‑minute altercation involving Tarleton's Grace St. Berry and Burtini, after which freshmen Yarisah Perez and Melany Gallegos each received their first career yellow cards.
Looking ahead, UTRGV will host Texas A&M International at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex, with gates opening at 10 a.m. All home matches remain free and open to the public.
